Rugved Kulkarni

Dr Kulkarni is a specialty trained Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Liver Transplant Surgeon. He graduated (M.B.B.S) from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Govt. Medical College, Pune in 2011 and thereafter completed his postgraduate training (M.S) in General Surgery from the same institute in 2014. He worked in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow for a year and then completed his sub-specialty training in Gastrointestinal Surgery (M.Ch.) from the King George’s Medical University, Lucknow in 2018. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), Edinburgh in 2016. He worked as a Senior fellow in the Department of GI and HPB Surgical Oncology at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai for a year and then, went to the United Kingdom for another fellowship in Liver transplantation and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. After completing three years of fellowship, he joined as Consultant, Liver transplant and HPB Surgeon at Dr. D. Y Patil Hospital & Medical College in his hometown, Pune in India. After a brief period, he went to Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) to work in one of the leading liver transplant centers at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre. He is currently working as Assistant Consultant at the same institute for last two years. He was awarded the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 2024 and was also a visiting fellow at UCSF, California in the Liver Transplant department.

Dr Kulkarni has authored more than 30 clinical research papers as well as book chapters on GI, HPB and Liver transplantation related topics. He also holds the additional qualifications of Diplomate of National Board (DNB & DrNB), New Delhi in General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery respectively. He has completed a certificate course in minimal access surgery (FIAGES) of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and is also a fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), Chicago since 2017.
