Job summary
The Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the field deployment, testing, configuration, troubleshooting and commissioning of PMU-based synchrophaser systems across transmission or substation environments.A key responsibility is to install configure and test PMUs PDCs GPS clocks time synchronization systems and network components validate synchrophaser data quality timestamps and C37.118 compliance coordinate with substations teams control centers OEM vendors during commissioning integrate PMUs PDCs SCADA/EMS systems WAMS servers analytics platforms configure communication interfaces such as IEC 61850 DNP3 ICCP IEEE C37.118 diagnose issues related to network communication time-sync failures device configuration perform root-cause analysis of data freeze bad quality data packet drops or incorrect phasor measurements assist utility clients in resolving field issues coordinating with OEM support prepare commissioning reports test sheets as-built documents configuration backups maintain detailed installation records network diagrams configuration logs provide technical inputs FAT/SAT checklists commissioning procedures ensure commissioning practices comply cybersecurity standards NERC CIP implement secure communication VLAN segmentation role-based access devices follow safety regulatory utility-specific guidelines during fieldwork provide on-site remote support operations teams after commissioning conduct user training PMU PDC operation troubleshooting WAMS dashboards support post-commissioniong data validation stabilization activities.
