Creating a Culture of Collaboration

What happens when an organization works without a defined system, appropriate plans and employee discipline? Perhaps, in simpler terms, there will be a chaotic culture, inefficiency and slack growth and poor employee performance. At large, disruption and disloyalty leads to spoilt workplace atmosphere.

A company’s culture doesn’t make sense when there’s no sense of ownership, no sense of responsibility, no sincere commitments and communication, no truthfulness and team-spirit and no employee engagement. It should be understood that when there are no commitments, there can be no outcomes, when there is no certainty, there can be no competence, when there is no productivity, there can be no profits, and when there is no substantial revenue, there can be no progress. Call it a derailed culture that needs corrective procedures for the wellness of the company.

A simple lesson that can be learnt from a school environment is the way a drillmaster make his students learn specific exercises and instills a sense of discipline into their minds. Definitely, without discipline nothing works. Likewise, reading the pulse of a company culture, a good leader must adopt change management concept for good outcomes.

When employees become trustworthy, sincere and conscious enough, then there will be an air of obedience, an abstract mechanism that makes employees to do their jobs, without any distraction or negativism. 

That’s the culture, which can simply bolster employees’ spirits and make them enthusiastic, fuse their motivation and energy for great results, and charge their attitudes to do what they have to do and aspire, as a team, for the very progress of their company.

Collaboration, besides fostering employee engagement, allows companies to boost their overall productivity, assess and improve business performance, accelerate innovation for profitable outcomes, establish strong presence in the marketplace, raise efficiency by simplifying internal processes and achieve significant cost savings.

However, with cohesive efforts and inspiring motivation, worthwhile employee recognition and rewards and appropriate growth opportunities, it becomes easier for the management to create a truly collaborative environment and keep employee morale at a high.

Let’s create a culture of collaboration with motivated, engaged and happy workforce!

Well said Ken Boddie and thanks for commenting. Funnily, in some cases, we find well established and pivotal departments with sufficient staff, but due to lack of quality culture and team-spirit, either there are discrepancies in multiple scenarios and vaguely implemented management system. Indeed, to keep things on-the-go, responsible persons ought to assess and evaluate on a daily basis.

As a national quality manager, Mohd, this is a subject I have to assess and evaluate on a daily basis. All your points are valid and noteworthy. Without a well documented and implemented management system, however, collaboration and culture are only vague terms that are difficult to achieve. Similarly, KPIs are futile without structure. First establish systems and policies agreed and enforced by middle and senior management, encourage checking by internal performance audits, reward conformance and performance, and encourage individualists to think in terms of team and group behaviour, and you have the foundation of a successful business.

Corporate culture and really any culture is really tied to Maslow's Hierarchy. The top of the pyramid describes success as potential and fulfillment. Below that are the things that inhibit the cap of the pyramid. Culture is usually hindered by "safety" or ones feelings about failing in front of their peers. To the degree failure is chastised you should see a correlation of collaboration decline. The freedom to explore has a direct impact on collaboration within any organization. Also trust an emergent property of the environment of freedom to explore.

This is true . Culture is an emerging property resulting from the interactions of individuals. If they interact within the boundaries i quoted from your good buzz then the emerging culture shall be great.
