Echo of Wisdom

Ah, there’s propensity in truth to alter human crookedness. Definitely, that’s an undeniable reality. But oftentimes a person may witness factual information and verities, yet there comes no remorse, no reassessment and no response.

A person may be literate, with worthwhile learning and he may be equally eminent with expertise. Okay, in terms of intellect, he may harbor rank reputation. While adhering to blind heresies, if a person clears not misconceptions from his mind, then his heart remains besmirched with obstinacy.

Sometimes, a simple dictum with scanty wisdom changes a person’s perception. A momentous change, isn’t it? Sometimes, a little accident leaves a mark inspiration.

Over two decades ago, I came across a person, who with humane personality was actively engaged with social work. I remember well…perhaps, he was in his mid thirties, and at that age he carried a sympathetic heart towards helping rag pickers, homeless orphans with little charities. My friend, who is a childhood buddy of this caring person, narrated an interesting happening.

It goes like this… my friend and this gentle person during college days used to have thrilling parties and entertaining outings every now and then. Once, while partying on an occasion, they, along with others, were intoxicated. It was during midnight that they ended up the party and were all dispersing to their destinations. While driving back towards home, my friend’s comrade dashed his bike to a pavement pole.

In fact, the severity of the accident left him injured, bleeding and helpless. He wasn’t unconscious…but, the heaviness of the hangover vanished with this jolting mishap. Soon, he regained consciousness and for a moment he pondered over a prime question: ‘What would happen to me if I wasn’t alive?’

Perhaps, that moment was so prestigious in altering the life of this person…after that, no more transgressions, no more intoxications, no more aimless living. And, with a serious bent of mind, he started learning the very essence and worth of human life, and as he kept learning his heart got cleared from the muddling manners of unbridled living and he came closer to the echo of wisdom.

I am sure that to this day, he must be living, like a pauper, with clear simplicity and purity of heart and serving homeless and needy, with little charities.
