From Facebook to Frustration and Futility

From Facebook to Frustration and Futility

“I love reading. 1 read about 3 hours a day.
My favorite book is Facebook.”
Small, sleek Smartphones has eased human life in many good ways. But, being handy, every now and then we turn our faces and hook up our attention to check any new message or fritter precious time by logging into social media platforms.

Whatever are the reasons for usage of social media, but we humans have become exceedingly addicted to it. Anything in excess beyond our control is all an addiction, and without social media, we even start feeling as if our lives lack learning and luster.

Perhaps, the most popular social media site across the world is Facebook that’s so attractive with its exciting features that everyone enjoys it. But, beyond the limits and with crazy addiction, we are fidgeting ourselves to frustration and futility.

One of my colleagues feels guilty that he is the culprit for his mother’s addiction to Facebook. How’s that? Well, he says that he taught her to keep herself little busy and escape boredom. But, she got herself more into Facebook that she spends sleepless nights either to keep responding to her friends or stay curious to check online content. What then? She goes to bed, at dawn, and sleeps until noon.

To my query, I asked a person who was seated at his workplace chair, with drooping neck and eyes glued to his iPhone screen, “Are you busy with Facebook?” Promptly, with a chuckle, he gave a nod.

“How many Facebook friends you have?” I asked him with little concern.

“Oh, not more, around 500”, said he who spends two-to-three hours a day on Facebook.

Imagine, even at workplaces, people have no time for human interaction and team spirit. But, by keeping themselves busy in the virtual world and engaged with Facebook friends, they have lost the real freedom. Okay, there’s online interaction, but in absence of facial expressions, body language and tone, either there’s reserved immersion or abrupt giggles. And that’s so funny and weird.

If nothing is useful, significant, legitimate and moderate, then what it means to post irrelevant content, text tidbits of gossips or upload vain pictures? Do we have to remain logged in now and then on social media to keep ourselves lively?

With no attention for surroundings and physical activities, perhaps we are straining our faculties to dangerous depression.

Let’s ask ourselves: Are we aptly using technology for our well-being or is technology spoiling us because of our own silly temptations?

Praveen Raj Gullepalli I do appreciate your thoughtfulness and perceptible comments. Anything of good value can be commendable within limits and the same goodness, with imbalanced focus, can harm our sensibility. Perhaps, in brevity, forgetting oneself and others with too much of engagement in anything (especially in digital world) is all a weird addiction. Okay, using it in a proper way for profitable and useful purpose makes sense. If Facebook brings old, good memories from friends, then that’s so good and heartening. Verily, a little more efforts from elders should be to mentor young generations with guidelines that say ‘If you do this, you will end up like this’. At least, besides precepts, it’s best to warn them of dire consequences with over-indulgence in anything. :)

Oh, with more data dispersed everywhere, there’s more pilfering of our privacies!

Thanks Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee for reading and commenting. That's so miserable to know the poor plight of your friend. And what a suffering of kids in solitude!

I enjoyed reading this buzz . I witnessed the same. My friend's wife does the same sleeping at dawn times. When her kids come back from school she is asleep. The kids feel lonely and most of the time hungry waiting for their mother to wake up. Unfortunately, instead on waking up she is almost on the breakup of her marriage.

Pascal Derrien Verily, I agree to what you have said, ‘You get back what you put in’. With all relevance and rationality, a person can enjoy being on any platform. But, with over-indulgence or obsession, one loses peace of mind. Perhaps, what matters most is how best one uses technology for productive and rewarding results.

I think you get back what you put in no matter what the platform is, I find FB pretty useful to keep up with my running buddies and cycling club matters for example, it is also a good way for me to cast an eye on sporting events to come. I am also part of a few closed groups with people who are not on LI or BB. I think like anything else a balanced approach and personal responsibility are paramount I would not finger point FB its just a tool in my opinion you could argue that there is also ton of marketing BS on BB I just ignore it or I am not connected with people who produce it :-)

I guess it depends on how much one engages in the discussions and the liking loop. Some people can use it and remain centered. I hope your husband is one such person.

Jerry Fletcher I do agree with your pensive reflection. Perhaps, we need wads of wisdom to handle, get along and respond when it comes to social media platforms. In fact, I have seen Facebook fans who live and act in funny, freaking and forgetting ways.

Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris Thanks for your thoughtful comments. Perhaps, the spontaneous congestion of Facebook content or its features never appealed me whereas the utmost simplicity, ease and uses of beBee remains worthwhile and soon I was rewarded by the recognition of ambassadorship. Of course, LinkedIn has its own merits.

Franci🐝Eugenia Hoffman, beBee Brand Ambassador like you even I say that beBee is the best that keeps us moderately engaged with more excitement and ease. LinkedIn too because of unique features is likeable. Thanks for your appreciative remarks.

I agree with Jerry. This instant gratification drug has started to damage people's attention. However, not all social media are alike. I find the beBee is a good alternative to FB, while it encourages people to have more meaningful interactions. Also, LI is not too bad either, although it is becoming more and more like FB lately. Cheers for the great post!

Mohammed, I fear that the ability to focus is being sucked out of our brains by Facebook and other social media. Youngsters in many cases can't comprehend the idea. And so it goes.
