Lack of Integrity leads to Failure

Here's an interesting parable, which I received some years back, from my ex-colleague through an e-mail. It goes like this:

What is confidence?

A hypothetical situation where 20 CEOs on board in an airplane and are told that the flight that they are about to take is the first-ever to feature pilotless technology: It is a crewless aircraft.

Each one of the CEOs is then told, privately, that their company's software is running the aircraft's automatic pilot system. Nineteen of the CEOs promptly leave the aircraft, each offering a different type of excuse.

One CEO alone remains on board the jet, seeming very calm indeed. Asked why
he is so confident in this first crewless flight, he replies:

"If it is the same software that's developed by my company's IT department, this plane won't even take off.”!!!!

That is called Confidence!

My good friend, with this e-mail, wanted to share the definition of 'confidence'. Prior to giving my second thoughts, I enjoyed reading this humorous piece of writing. But then, I wrote him back, my own comments, which I wish to disclose here:

Perhaps, it’s not the confidence of the boss…in fact, it is damn conviction of his company’s blunt drawbacks, which makes him feel that the ‘automatic aircraft cannot pilot on his company’s software…because failure cannot relate success!

However, this sounds sarcastic, but then it lessons one important thing that in the age of machination wherein voluminous amounts of workload are simplified, we marvel the surprising results…but this happens by the successful implementation of right mechanisms, at the right time, and at the right place.

Definitely, formulae-based mathematics, applied mechanisms and advanced technologies can solve complex processes, but the practicality of successful implementation of those systems also relies on the integrity, communication, and interactive support of every single individual. 

Otherwise, such scenarios will become evident when bosses feel that the system will never work because they are damn sure of the drawbacks of their teams, whose failure rests due to lack of integrity.
