Little World, Great People

Undoubtedly, we all think that what the world chronicles rehearses and what the prevailing media ranks people in esteem are great personalities. Okay agreed.

But, in every corner of the world, perhaps countless men and women must have breathed their lives in silence with their spotless honesty, true hard work, clear genius, rise from poverty to prosperity, unwavering aspirations, chiseled dreams, great sacrifices, unbroken promises, passion to share happiness, perseverance in agonizing times, tolerance in hardships, cheery attitudes to keep others happy, balancing family and work, stillness over stress, upbringing children with compassion, love and hopes and mindfulness to care others. Who knows them or their worth when the world hasn’t recorded anything about them?

And definitely, with such similar traits we’ll find men and women of little or more greatness in our own families, relatives, friendly ties, or neighborhoods. 

What matters if they aren’t published personalities or appreciated less by others? But, verily, they are loved and revered in their own little worlds. That’s enough!

Let me narrate a little about a lady who completed her education in penury, and in order to shoulder domestic expenses besides her father’s meager pension, she tried a lot with job applications.

Fortunately, one day, she received a call from the office of Richardson Hindustan Limited (now known as Procter & Gamble India Limited) for job interview. They were penniless at home, burdened with loans, and little borrowed groceries that kept their lives on the go. 

But then, that day was her precious day…like a ray of hope that has touched her great expectations.

From her good neighbor, she borrowed little money for her transportation to the place of interview and return to the home. Her parents were joyous and sad because they felt the onset of happy times as well as struggling life of their daughter ahead.

On the day of interview, she took blessings from her parents, and her siblings were all anxious with their little guesswork. She went, with all aspirations, and she returned with all good news. At home, she spread the breaking news of her selection, job title and salary offer. She was thrilled with those happy moments and determined to work hard to see her family growing in prosperity.

With unwavering faith and for the sake of family, she started her journey of working life. As days and months passed, the burden of living was lessened with the steady financial support. All her salaried income was spent on domestic chores, siblings’ school fees and settlement of loans.

Over the years, she delayed her marriage to support her family, sponsored the expenses for her younger sister’s marriage, and even after she got married she kept supporting her parents and siblings to a greater extent. Financially, morally and heartily she always stood ready to support others with sufficient money, comforting counsel and cheery attitude.

Being a married woman, juggling between work duties and family affairs is an exhausting phase. Yet, she was least strained, and on the contrary, with all virtues she kept herself energetic to remain loyal wife, loving mother, caring daughter, supporting sister and well-wisher at workplace.

Over the past three decades of work life, her life is more composed of great toil and tension. She has earned and spent on others, kept no substantial savings, bought a house and sold it in haste, resigned from the job in chaotic circumstances, and with no proper financial support she took up again the reins of working life.

But, life is not easy for a working woman to perform various roles by being a duteous employee at work, a responsible wife and caring mother at home, and lastly to comfort self in order to remain ready for the next working day.

At the end, there’s no thought of retirement from this present job. Although, she has become diabetic and frail by strength, but she’s still full of stamina and spirits to be someone, to do something sensible and to garner worthwhile efforts to be a virtuous mother and have blissful life.
