Living a Healthy, Happy Life

With good health and contented livelihood, you will attain genuine happiness.

Now-a-days, this isn’t an acceptable precept. Many of us prefer busier lives and striving livelihoods in order to achieve more success, more wealth and more luxuries. Nothing authenticity, but it’s just an observation. We give no worth to what we have, instead of showing gratitude we whine on our destinies, often neglect our own health in stupidity and when any serious malady strikes us, we become more worrisome.

Imagine what would you do when you plan for a long drive by car. Ah, you get a thorough check of your car wheels and tyres. No leaks, no malfunctioning headlights or indicators. Sufficient fuel oil, radiator in condition and spare tire. Yep, what then? Does the engine need an oil change? Are brake pads and wipers okay? This is your little consciousness that makes you to check before a long road trip.

And, in journeying our lives, we forget the very concept of healthy eating and healthy living. In fact, we don’t care ourselves enough to consume adequate, beneficial and lawful food. Instead, we tend to eat, out of temptations, junk and unhealthy food. And when we fall sick and spoil our health, we take drugs like almonds. No way to eat as you like it. We have to control our cravings. Miserable, isn’t that?

I heard about a person who might have tarnished his lungs with tar and nicotine from the habit of cigarette smoking that was almost four decades old. Anyway, when he got severe chest pain and two stents implanted in his heart, then his surgeon simply advised him, ‘If you don’t stop smoking, you will risk your life.’ That day itself he quit smoking. But then, one addiction was still lurking. He still continued drinking two cans of carbonated soft drink a day.

Recently, he had a bloating stomach and swellings in his legs. His physician told him that the sugar levels have gone up and there’s excess fluid in his body. However, he was admitted in the hospital for a day or two. Got the fluid drained out. After the treatment, he was feeling good, at last. Later on, I heard that he has stopped completely drinking carbonated soft drinks. That’s a superb change.

What’s the true benefit of sugary soft drinks? Do we think how many spoons of sugar each can of soft drink contains? What a world of unwanted and unstable materials that alter and sicken our bodies. Yet, we are addicted to drinks, without any care and concern, that contains cancer-causing ingredients.

Often, we come across people who have strange eating and drinking habits. Some get their habits from their own cultures and customs. Some imitate others. 

Once, my grandfather ate monitor lizard for the first time. That was a morsel or two because he saw, at the place he worked, his subordinates relishing the meat. The very next day, he suffered a severe skin allergy, and over the years, that small allergy turned into patchy psoriasis all over his body at different places. Sadly, he had that disease until his death.

Interestingly, for some, eating half of the roasted lamb in one sitting is not a big problem. But what can a person do when his appetite counts nowhere. I know a person who used to eat like a miser for the sake of saving money. His lunch was no more than a single veggie sandwich. Anything more would leave his stomach in trouble.

Perhaps, if your body isn’t aligned to anything, then it’s impossible for you to eat something anew. In some places, people serve their guests raw eggs (in bowls) to drink instead of tea or coffee. It’s a regional tradition, and not everyone can practice it because raw eggs give a strong odor.

Long back, a person had a gluttony for appetizing foods. In any function, he used to fill his plate and eat to his full desire. If at all, he had felt stomach uneasiness, then he had a simple remedy. He used to place his finger along his tongue, push it forward towards his throat and vomit in the wash basin, and after a little relief, he would start a new eating session. Weird, isn’t that?

People who long to attend marriage functions, free luncheons or dinner invitations spend a hasty time for eating and drinking. They eat, as if everything is going to finish and they need to fill their bellies in a short slot. 

Shouldn’t we eat into three thirds—one-third for food, one-third for drink and one-third for air? Yes, this is a healthy recipe and enough to keep us alive and healthy.

As long as you take healthy food in a sufficient manner, then presumably, you can be away from doctors' prescriptions and pills. Indeed, acceptable, healthy and balanced food is far better than modern medication comprising of pills and syrups. And certainly, when you are healthy, you will feel the joy of living.

Oftentimes, we fail to realize that good health, after all, is a bounty and blessing. What a misery when we have everything, with monies, but can't even relish good dishes to delight our essential desires. Let's care ourselves to be cheery and healthy.

Mohammed, your observations are sadly all too true. It takes some jarring experience to get us on a better path but we are subject to so many health vices. And so it goes.

WE are increasingly becoming short of good times because we want to rush things. This is reflected in our tendency to east fast and junk food. We don't think of the long-term consequences and only later e suffer dearly because of our poor dieting habits. Thank you dear Mohammed Abdul Jawad. I am sharing your post.

That's good advice! I'd add that the kinds of foods one is more in need often is aligned with one's personality and lifestyle (e.g. some people are more in need of protein than others).
