Online Classes, Zoom Drama and Screen Addiction

Imagine a mother of five kids, and four of them are students of home schooling. O yes, due to COVID-19, children are no more ‘school-going’ students, but they’re either hooked up to online classes or loitering in their homes. So it goes. 

Ah, parents are suffering most with the burden of home studies on children. More often, mothers are in great trouble. Firstly, they have to manage their kitchens. Secondly, they have to pretend like home tutors for their kids. Thirdly, they have to maneuver everything by explaining notes to their kids, supervising their classwork and homework, reviewing assignments and coordinating with class teachers.

Perhaps, fortunate are those who are parents to one or two kids. May be they’ll have ample time for everything. No extra burden for them. Who knows they may be even enjoying seeing their kids’ interaction on zoom classes. 

Parents have become like ‘pendulums’ swinging between the two ends. They have to keep a continuous rapport with school teachers, and then, after rehearsing the subjects, they have to educate their children. No proper time for cooking sessions, no time for noon nap. Sometimes, parents are falling into forgetfulness. Look this, do that…every day is all rigorously repetitive with nothing newness.

Aren’t kids linked to screens too much? Who knows to what extent children are spending time in front of shimmering screens? And then, during zoom classes, are children really behaving themselves or chatting with their classmates? Are mothers supposed to sit next to their kids and keep a watch until zoom sessions end? If so, then this is too burdensome for them.

What if children skip to other streaming channels or busy themselves in watching videos on YouTube? Ugh, it seems, after online classes, children prefer to spend some time playing video games. What could be the outcome of such idiotic addiction? For this reason, parents are grunting, and then they’re feeling helpless because nothing’s going to happen and everything has gone lopsided.

How long schools will be shuttered? When will this remote learning system makes a halt? Poor parents have no clue. Particularly, mothers are becoming worrisome due to work load and unwanted stress.

Sometimes, like movie-making, children have to repeat rehearsals for final recording of digital videos. Once done, mothers have to upload videos, inform educators and wait for outcomes of their lengthy efforts. 

Every day mothers have their own experiences and their stories remain untold while children are having their own lives between online education and virtual entertainment.
