Smartphones - Benefits and Lurking Perils

Smartphones - Benefits and Lurking Perils

12c53086.jpg

Indeed, now-a-days, mobile connectivity is the pulsation of human interaction. And, without this ability, we feel, as if, disconnected from the world.

The plain truth is that we are living in a fast-paced modern world, with techno-digital advancements and tools and its diverse features and benefits. While the world is becoming busier, populous, closer, obviously the powerful platforms for communication and interaction seems to be social media and apps. You use it, and lo your presence is everywhere, and when you defy its worth, then you live in isolation.

Ah, what to say about the older form of networking wherein we walked miles, reached places and knocked doors of our allies; our friendly meetings with cheery gossips, sharing ideas, with every sip of tea. No e-mails, no messages, and no cell phones, no text messages.

Perhaps, without mobile and digital world, we could say we were more humane, with face-to-face communications. At times, we recorded our contacts’ names on pieces of paper, exchanged visiting cards or scribbled notes in organizers.

In present times, simple living is out of the ordinary, and to be equipped with latest digital devices, and staying connected for the bulk of info sharing and receiving has become the norm of every person’s life.

Who can refute the many benefits of mobile connectivity and Smartphone applications? In better and brief ways, truly, Smartphones are dear, beneficial devices.

On the contrary, what concerns most is the excessive use of social media and apps anytime, anywhere. With our heads down, when we become marooned, with more Smartphone addiction, then that’s too scary and strange. Moreover, being forgetful of our surroundings and proximate realities, we are becoming absorbed with the impact of uninvited messages, annoying chronicles, irrelevant audios, strange, short videos, satirical images or trivial gags. Too much of mess coupled with mobile mania has mesmerized our lives. True, isn’t that?

Our priorities have changed. Foremost, when buying a Smartphone, we think in terms brand, features, design and discounts. Once purchased, next, we get hooked up to various chat applications, Internet phone calls or social media networking sites. In fact, Smartphone addiction has swiped our brains so much that, sometimes, we become totally absent-minded.

Being addicted to Smartphones is such a nuisance, and with the global chronicles and news, we, oftentimes, get panicky. And then, there’s so much of unchecked and needless content in the form of boring chitchats, pointless gossips, silly tweeting and nerve-wracking reportage from diverse sources. Not all are addicted to Smartphones, but then, we all tend to behave like newscasters and propagators. We understand less, and share more. Simply, the fashion of the world is totally different wherein people want to get connected with family and friends and be part of virtual atmosphere.

Everywhere across the world, we see an upsurge in mobile markets, networks and users. In any circumstance, it seems we all love Smartphones and we fancy to have it all the time.

Lo! Like a genie everything pops up and users get enthralled into their own typical, virtual worlds. It’s like glimpsing the whole globe on a little device. Thrilling, isn’t that?

We live in a digitized world. We all, somewhat, know what’s technology, innovation, digital transformation. Rather than relishing realities we feel enlightened in a virtual world.

As we know that millennials brought the media passion, and they influenced their predecessors ‘Generation X’. And more remarkably, post-millennials ‘Generation Z’ are far ahead with their spiraling enthusiasm. In passing times, one doesn’t need a tutor, at all. With the flow of information that keeps coming, one finds an excellent tutelage of instant communication and personalized mobile learning solutions.

The truth is that the whole world has mounted onto the social media bandwagon so fast in great numbers. Everyone seems to be social media savvy.

What’s surprising is that we see people glued to their Smartphones all the time, and it shows how they cannot bear to be without it. Reason this, we find interesting analysis, predictions and reports on mobile applications that are popping up faster based on users’ preferences and tendencies. And then, there’s staggering statistics that show the rapid growth of mobile phones market.

We all check our phones while eating, drinking and during important conversations. We look at our phones while we are engaged in driving, workplace meetings or domestic chores. Shouldn’t we use Smartphones to lesser degree when needed?

Certainly, we will be healthy, lively and safe if we adopt the idea of abstaining ourselves from our digital and consumerist addictions.

Now, with all those impressive mobile applications and appealing social media platforms, may be, the need is to have Super Smartphones, after driverless cars and drones, that are with more remote functions, all-in-one for those who aspire to live ultra modern lives.

With no more frequent interruptions, no jamming, no slowdowns and no viruses, at least, social media and mobile phones addicts can be hooked on, without any hassles. :)

Dear Ken Boddie Thanks for your thought-provoking comments. Ah, what a device! Be away from it, then that makes us laypersons. Delve into it then there’s fear of addiction. Lets’ opt for moderation and be healthy. After all, succinctness is so sweet.

Thank you Mohammed Abdul Jawad for the reminder for the perils of smartphones (and other smart devices that play a similar role, since the tablet is not too far from the smartphone nowadays). I wonder if this sort of technology is the culprit though. Personally I find the if someone is poised to gossip and waste time in meaningless chatter they'd find a way to do this with or without a smart device at their disposal. The latter will definitely amplify and facilitate the whole process. Perhaps a better education is what we need, as to how to properly (in lack of a better word) use this sort of devices. Just like a car can be a hazardous piece of machinery if not driven properly, this smart device tech can be a menace is not used responsibly and maturely, something that I believe we can be trained to do. Cheers!

Indeed, Mohd, mobile mania maketh the madman. We’re damned if we use them and damned if we don’t. 🤔

I disagree on one point. Since most communication takes place away from others using the Internet, smartphones, etc. It's not me who, prefers face to face meetings, preferably over coffee/ beer, in pleasant surroundings, whose isolated but them. I mingle with other humans, they essentially avoid contact. Mind you in the current climate of the spread of viruses, I might have to isolate myself. At least I won't have worry if my laptop/ computer has a invasive virus, because I don't possess either.
