Claudia Sanchez Huerta

I am a civil engineer with a Master's and Ph.D. in environmental science and engineering interested in designing interdisciplinary solutions to environmental problems, particularly focused on minimizing water pollution and preventing water scarcity from becoming any worse.

My current research involves the use of biological treatments (membrane aerated biofilm reactors) for the removal of organic matter, nutrients, and emerging contaminants, which despite being present in municipal and industrial wastewater at very low concentrations (ug-ng/L), they can potentially cause harmful effects to aquatic organisms and follow the water cycle back into drinking water systems. 

5 years of research experience in wastewater treatments through the biological aerobic and anaerobic process and membrane technologies; highly proficient in the use of different types of equipment for water quality analysis.

I aim to use my research and quantitative skills to create new strategies for mitigating anthropogenic impacts on natural ecosystems.
