Dr. Faisal Alhothali

Dr. Faisal Alhothali has over 38 years of experience in sustainability & sustainable development, climate change policy, Environment, Montreal Protocol, communications, corporate responsibility, and project management.

Currently, he is a Freelance Certified Chief Sustainability Officer - Environmental and Climate Change Expert, a Board Member of Yanbu United Company for Trade & Industry, a Founding Patron & an Advisory Council Member of the Islamic Reporting Initiative (IRI). And a Member of the Board of Trustees of the World Academy (TWA).

Previously he was an Executive Director of Sustainable Environment at the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, a Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) in Petro Rabigh, a Secretary General of both, Petro Rabigh’s Corporate Sustainability Steering Committee & The Sustainable Development Council. Prior to that, he was at the World Bank HQ in Washington, DC from April 2008 to Oct. 2013 as a senior environmental specialist and as a head of the World Bank’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) Program. He was also part of the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa Region’s (MENA) Sustainable Development Network (SDN) and the World Bank’s Climate Change Group during this time. In addition, he was a Climate Change Senior Negotiator and policy advisor of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations for three years.

Dr. Alhothali was also a public relations Specialist, a head of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) division, and an Environmental Specialist of the Saudi national Oil Company, Saudi Aramco for nine years. Before that, he was the head of the prequalification & Environmental Impact Assessment Department of the Saudi Presidency of Metrology and Environment (PME) for 14 years.  

Dr. Alhothali completed his bachelor’s degree in science, Microbiology from King Abdulaziz University (KSA), master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK), and a PhD in Environmental Science and Public Policy from George Mason University (USA).
