MAIN PURPOSE:
The main purpose of the Senior Project Engineer is to undertake management duties within a multidiscipline Engineering Department. All work would be carried out under the direct supervision of the Area Manager.
The incumbent is also responsible for the progress of projects, from initial kick-off to issue of deliverables, provide business promotion & establishment, business administration and project engineering support under the direction of the Area Manager.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To carry out a Lead Engineer function within the Engineering & Operations Department providing a support function to the establishment in all aspect of cranes, lifting and support service activities.
- Contribute to the establishment sales effort, through direct client contact and meetings, with particular focus on target customers as defined within the establishment business plan.
- Duties encompass the assistance with compilation and cost control of the business unit budgets and, in conjunction with the Area Manager, identify areas for business development.
- Contribute to quarterly performance reviews with line management regarding the department's services to enable accurate review of business unit performance.
- When undertaking visits to site or offshore installations, promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.
- Provide an administration and technical support function to the business unit for all service area activities.
- Responsible for assisting with the regular and correct compilation and condition monitoring of information relating to all aspects of the allocated projects.
- Major function is to provide a comprehensive Lead Engineer function within the establishment, encompassing, but not limited to, the following:
- Preparation of proposals and tenders.
- Administration of assigned project files.
- Liaison with clients and subcontractors.
- Preparation of calculations and work procedures.
- Completion of purchase requisitions.
- Arrange equipment dispatch and transportation.
- Compilation of job closeout reports.
- Preparation of engineering invoice drafts and financial control of assigned projects.
- Ensuring that Direct reports develop their own skills and experience for the benefit of the Company by:
- Mentoring of subordinates to ensure individuals are developed to fully meet their potential.
- Undertaking an annual formal appraisal where development needs are identified and agreed.
- Monitoring the performance of his direct reports and recommending development opportunities.
- Identifying the training needs for employees.
- Offshore surveys & project implementation.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- An HND in Engineering although a BSc or BEng (Hons) Mechanical/Electrical Engineering preferable.
- Experience within a project engineering environment / mechanical engineering background in multicultural environment.
- Excellent Communication skills to enable effective Client liaison.
- Effective in dealing with commercial and management aspects of the role.
