Responsible for supervising and participating in the administration of quality respiratory care to patients with cardiopulmonary related difficulties in accordance with physician's orders.

Provides on-going and timely communication and feedback to the Respiratory Care Services (REC) Leadership / Support Team.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Supervises and participates in the administration of oxygen and other medical gas therapy,humidity therapy, aerosol therapy, and medications used in respiratory therapy procedures in accordance with physician's orders.
  • Supervises and performs the more complex respiratory therapy procedures to include:calibrating, setting up, monitoring, and adjusting mechanical ventilators.
  • Provides in-service education as required to REC staff, students, other healthcare staff, and patients in the proper use of respiratory equipment and procedures.
  • Responsible for the enforcement of all Personnel policies, and the handling of disciplinary problems, as requested by the head of REC.
  • Responsible for on-going monitoring and assessment of supply and equipment inventory inarea of responsibility. Communicates purchasing needs to Management Teammembers and assists in the evaluation /selection ofnew equipment.
  • Assures equipment functionality and monitors preventive maintenance schedule inassigned areas.
  • Assistsin developing, reviewing, and implementing Clinical Pathways in areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in the design, planning, documentation, implementation, and evaluation of all service expansions or additions with in areas of responsibility. Makes recommendations based on the available human, physical and material resources.
  • Assists in and performs literature research for supporting information on new orexisting treatments or modalities as required or assigned.
  • Develops and periodically reviews the section policies and procedures related to Respiratory Care modalities in areas of responsibility.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of systematic on-going Continuous Quality Improvement programs in areas of responsibility.
  • Functions as a representative of the REC Management/Support team. Serves as liaison between REC and other disciplines, as necessary or directed.
  • Promotes and facilitates a free exchange of information between the Management/Supportteam and all other REC staff.
  • Participates in in orientation of new staff, and students, and assists and provides back-upto other members of the REC leadership team and staff as required.
  • Performs duties of Staff Therapist as required.
  • Plans and conducts meetings with colleagues to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
  • Recommends various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and vacation schedules.
  • Carries assigned communication device 24/7 as a member of the REC Internal/External Disaster Call Back Team.
  • Participates in self and others' education, training, and development, as applicable
  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.

Education:

Master's or Bachelor's, or Associate Degree/Diploma (NorthAmerican) in Respiratory Therapy is required.


Experience Required:


Grade 10:

Four (4) years of related experience with Master's or six (6) years with Bachelor's Degree or six (6) years with Associate Degree/Diploma; including two (2) years in a supervisory/senior position is required.


Grade 11:
*Four (4) years as Supervisor, Respiratory at KFSH&RC.

  • Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four(4) years.
  • One hundred (100) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].

Other Requirements(Certificates):


  • Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
  • Respiratory Therapy Registry (RRT) from NBRC or CSRT is required for North American graduates is required.
  • Valid License from country of origin is required.
  • Advanced Life Support Course (ACLS) certification is required.
  • Pediatric Life Support Course (ACLS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Endotracheal intubation training preferred.
