Provides the needed advice and guidance to Environmental Permit and Environmental and Marine Monitoring Sections as needed, through field visits, on-site inspections, sample collection and testing.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provides all necessary advice and guidance to all the Environmental Protection and Control Department (EPCD) Sections to meet the RC goals and objectives and keep the EPCD current concerning international regulatory standards.
- Monitors and takes measurements for corrective action when appropriate for the following issues:
- Industrial activities within JCPDI having a bearing on the marine environment.
- Activities in and around the industrial port.
- Sampling and analysis of sea water.
- Wild and marine life preservation.
- Monitoring and oversight of the mangrove plantation area and related activities.
- Performs periodic inspections on the facilities and areas to ensure environmental and water compliance.
- Evaluates the selfmonitoring reports and other technical reports submitted by industries and coordinates with other sections regarding violations.
- Reviews industry environmental compliance with RC requirements and determine if any extent of deviation from the RC regulations and standards.
- Participates in periodic revision of RC Environmental regulations and standards and implements the same in line with kingdom's laws, international regulations and standards and best practices.
- Sets and monitors the Royal Commission (RC) environmental regulations and standards in line with the government's environmental standards and best practices.
- Conducts sampling and undertakes studies to determine the impact of industrial operations on the environment.
- Evaluates the potential impact of pollution on water, soil, marine and coastal terrestrial ecology and other environmentally sensitive areas.
- Develops scopes of work for environmental studies.
- Manages subcontractors performing environmental studies and reviews/comments on work products.
- Provides analytical support to determine fines and penalty values on the basis of industry violations and nonadherence.
What Required Skills You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Biology, Environmental or Related Field) from recognized university with a minimum of 10 years of related field experience.
- Master's degree in specialist marine area is preferable.
- Knowledge of Marine Science International Best Practice and Standards along with KSA Environmental Regulatory requirements in particular the Royal Commission Environmental Regulations (RCER 2015).
- Experience in conducting scientific research and preferably the publication of scientific research papers in international journals.
- Conversant with the use and interpretation of data from environmental monitoring and control equipment.
