    Role Purpose

    Leads the delivery and oversees the implementation of sustainability services on behalf of NEOM proponents in accordance with the NEOM Company and all regulatory requirements.

    Build knowledge, culture and capability of sustainability within NEOM proponents over time, while maintaining a team of experts to coordinate work program and activities required.

    Lead implementation and reporting for sustainability

    Promote a high-performance working environment embracing NEOM's values as a key member of the Department's senior leadership team, providing guidance, support and a mentoring role to the team, and key department stakeholders.

    Key Accountabilities & Activities

    Leadership

    • Participate as a key member of the Department's senior leadership team
    • Work closely with the executive leadership team and other key stakeholders, communicating key milestones and updates regularly
    • Promote a high-performance working environment embracing NEOM's values through coaching and supervision of project and program teams
    • Lead all sustainability related matters, including the establishment of an operational policy and procedural framework and library

    Accountabilities

    Division Management
    • Develop and manage implementation plans that align with the Environment Strategy (Company)
    • Oversee the implementation of operational processes, procedures, and systems for the Division Develop and manage annual budgets.
    • Hire and mentor a team, ensuring adequate resource availability for successful delivery of implementation plan and work programs.
    • Manage procurement processes and teams to ensure work packages and resources are managed within approved budgets, schedules, and as efficiently as possible with a department-wide lens
    • Provide advice and capability uplift to NEOM proponents in relation to the achievement of NEOM's environment and sustainability aspirations
    • Support the Head of Department in building and maintaining a high-performance culture of excellence, innovation and continuous improvement
    • As required, directly manage employees and/or projects
    • Provide technical input and guidance to project teams when needed
    • Provide leadership and direction to advance environmental programs, practices and performance
    • Ensure the ongoing effectiveness and continual improvement of procedures and systems
    • Oversee the ongoing training requirements for the Division

    ESG
    • Establish and oversee performance management system that partners with NEOM proponents and supports capability and understanding uplift of intervention instruction notices related to thematic, persistent or systemic issues
    • Internal and external reporting of compliance performance and status
    • Establish and maintain a register of preferred contractors and oversee their engagement
    • Oversee the work program of a high-quality and timely delivery of sustainability services and performance management program led by the team and contractors, aimed to meet NEOM's aspirations for sustainability

    Background, Skills & Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    The Director of Sustainability should have a proven track record in sustainability management, having worked on major- or, preferably, mega-projects, in private/commercial or public (governmental) capacity. Their experience should ideally span over the development life cycle from planning and design through construction, operations, and decommissioning.

    The candidate must have:
    • Minimum of 15 years' experience in a broad range of technical project delivery roles and operational disciplines including biology, natural resource management, remote sensing, energy modelling, life-cycle cost analysis, carbon accounting, environmental quality, compliance assurance, governance, health and safety and policy development.
    • At least 10 years' experience in a senior managerial position in commercial sectors
    • Experience working in sustainability
    • Strong understanding of international best practice in sustainability assessment systems such as LEED, ESTIDAMA, Envision or CEEQUAL
    • Extensive experience developing and leading high performing sustainability teams
    • Extensive experience managing sustainability staff and contractors
    • Experience developing strong collaborative working environments
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Qualifications

    • BSc or MSc in Sustainability, Architecture, Building Services Engineering, Environmental Management (or related discipline) with a minimum of 15 years' experience.
