From Distressing Disease to Destined Death

From Distressing Disease to Destined Death

EVERY SOUL W

When life comes to a halt, even after vital medicines and meek orisons, then that’s human destiny. Neither there will be a moment early nor a moment in deferral.

Ah, what a misery of a wife, who suffered multiple ailments, but still had a comforting and caring husband. Until recently, she was healthy, all good in walking, active in cooking and hearty in attitudes. Perhaps, the dusk of her age touched her too early and thus making her frail and fatigued.

Initially, she had burdening obesity, and then soon blood pressure and diabetes started pestering her body’s balance. She switched doctors to get rid of hypertension, but no branded pill lowered her high blood pressure.

One day, her health worsened, and at that time, the only person to her aid was her kind husband, who took her to the hospital. Fortunately, she suffered no paralysis attack, but she started feeling enervated due to fluctuating diabetes and irregular flow of blood through arteries.

Soon, there were signs of swelling on her legs, and then medical reports showed that one of her kidneys is not functioning well. Next, in her medication list, there was one more addition of pills to control creatinine levels, and her whole regimen of food was altered to avoid any imbalances in her weak body.

Perhaps, she must have felt proud lady of a loyal husband, who toiled every task to keep a check on her health and care her well with all amenities. Undoubtedly, her obedient sons looked after her and accepted all expenses, and then her attentive husband took care of her at all times.

At her impatient call, he would hasten, without a word. When she, at times, became bothered, he promptly pacified her. When she wanted to move around, with slow steps, he was ready to support her.

Ah, observing her questioning and nervousness, he dealt every scenario with heartiness and interest. At one time, he said emotionally, “She took care of my kids, from childhood to teenage. And now, I am supposed to take care of her, without any pause.”

But, one day, she was feeling extremely dull and sleepy, with heavy eyelids. Immediately, she was taken, in an ambulance, to the hospital. Probably, her heart went into spasm due to her improper breathing. She was kept in the intensive-care unit, (I.C.U.) given oxygen and intravenous drips in order to stabilize her situation.

Her pulmonary test showed community-acquired pneumonia. Firstly, with the severity of typical bacterial pathogens, the specialist doctor began treating her with the antibiotics.

No sooner she recovered from pneumonia in few days; there were symptoms of acute renal failure, with increased blood urea and urinary tract issues. Both diabetes and hypertension levels were oscillating, and soon swelling started in the feet, ankles and legs. The attending nephrologist advised that dialysis is a must in order to avoid further complications.

Fortunately, after three times of dialysis, her kidneys were moderately functioning and there was normal output of urine. But then, with too many complications and disorder in body functioning, she suffered paralysis on the right side of the body. That day, she stared everyone, but uttered not a single word. Her husband and son felt something weird, and then, after CT scan of the brain, the neurosurgeon detected a small blood clot in the brain and that disabled her speech.

The neurosurgeon started treatment right away by prescribing pills that will slowly, but surely melts the blood clot. Nothing happens quickly, and it takes time. While her health, with weakened immune system, was deteriorating severely and she sometimes slipped into dizziness and unconsciousness with low blood sugar levels.

When she was conscious, she only uttered continuously the name of the Almighty Lord, and once she called her son and daughter by their names. On many occasions, she deeply glanced at her husband and sons, as if she was trying to recognize them or communicate something with sheer looks.

Finally, the hospital doctors suggested that it’s most advisable to shift her to the home, with proper set up of facilities and arrangement of specialist nurses. Her room, in the house, was equipped with the mechanical bed, and then she was discharged from the hospital.

With partial paralysis and fragile body, she was all motionless on the bed, and there was a narrow feeding tube through her nose. Now and then, different doctors were consulted, and they after reviewing the symptoms and conditions suggested that everything is okay and the same medications to be continued. At home, with no visible improvements, she got no better.

Perhaps, that day came as a finale when she was breathing unevenly, as if her lungs got jammed. Though unconscious, but she repeatedly took the name of the Almighty Lord for at least four hours.

Her throat was unclear and she coughed a little more. Upon doctor’s advice, mucus suction machine was used to suck the saliva. Besides this, she was given a single dose of injection for low haemoglobin counts. Even then, her condition was almost critical, and within few moments, she was admitted to the hospital.

She was there, all helpless placed on a ventilator and electrical defibrillation in the hospital’s emergency ward. It was certain that end-stage renal and respiratory failure has done a great damage to her body. Her pulse was going low, with rhythm irregularities and her body continued to go on the blink, and shortly afterward, she was declared dead.

Perhaps, she was in her early sixties, not that old, but then, it was timely death, her destiny’s last moment.

Tears flowed down the cheeks of the loving, caring husband, and soon the news of her death engulfed family members into sudden grief and heartbreak.
