    JOB DESCRIPTION

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Initiating and maintaining a patient-oriented drug informationservice,

    Promoting clinical pharmacy services in the hospital

    Conducts training and educational sessions related to drug information services.

    Answering drug information question and inquiries from physicians, nurses and pharmacists within the hospital.

    Form and obtains all necessary information from the caller to enable the request to be processed.

    Interprets the question and defines specific areas of the literature to be researched completes the required research in a systematic and thorough manner.

    Evaluates the literature in an accurate and unbiased manner, If appropriate makes recommendations with respect to drug therapy taking into consideration the patient's medical profile, the pharmacological and pharmaceutical characteristics of the drugs involved.

    Formulates a relevant, coherent and informative response, communicates the

    response clearly in an oral and/or written form.

    Classifies and files the drug information questions systematically.

    Organizes continuing education updates for staff pharmacists when new drugs are added to the formulary system also provides in-service education upon request to other healthcare professionals of the hospital through formal lectures.

    Answering medical inquiries from outside the hospital (healthcare professionals and patients).

    Complies with the approved international accreditation standards.

    Attends assigned hospital and departmental meetings as needed.

    Collaborates with other Drug Information Center nationally and internationally.

    Keeping hospital staff and the pharmacy page (ASH portal) updated with all SFDA and MOH latest news and alerts.

    Preparing patient counselling materials.

    Publishing a quarterly electronic clinical newsletter.

    Reviewing the hospital drug formulary.

    Receive, review and evaluate all reported Adverse Drug Reactions ADRs.

    Acquires and maintains accurate up-to-date information resources, including Text books, journals, abstracting and indexing systems.

    Develops and implements medication use policies, procedures and guidelines.

    Ensures the application and adherence to all policies and procedures within his/her work area.

    Enhance the quality of pharmacy and therapeutics committee decisions on medication use policy.

    Responsible for conducting Drug Evaluations when requests for formulary addition are being considered.

    Maintains accurate records and reports of the service provided by the center.

    Provide appropriate evidence-based, cost-effective, and patient-centered medication recommendations.

    Works as an active member of multidisciplinary team and collaborates with healthcare providers to provide patient-centered care

    Serve as a drug information resource for the providers and support staff in ASH.

    Utilizes existing computer resources to maximize retrieval of clinical information for monitoring and review of the medication use process.

    Actively identifies practice related issues which require evaluation and facilitate clinical research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice.

    Coordinate/participate in activities related to improving outcomes for targeted disease management initiatives leading to improved health.

    Identifies and prioritizes opportunities for performance improvement based on findings from ongoing monitoring programs and other resources.

    Serves as a liaison between Pharmacy Department and the hospital Performance Improvement Department.

    Submit detailed monthly report to pharmacy administration included the clinical pharmacist recommendation and other hand response.

    Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    Bachelor's degree from College of Pharmacy.

    Valid license from SCHS (senior pharmacist classification)

    Doctor of Pharmacy or other advanced degree highly preferred.

    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

    Prior experience in a Drug Information services would be preferable.

    SPECIALIZED SKILLS :

    Good command of English, Arabic preferred or is highly desirable.

    Significant knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice, specialty drug information, medication therapy management, and evidence-based medicine in area appropriate for clinical assignments.

    COMPETENCE:

    Effectively and efficiently gather information

    Critically analyze, evaluate, select, synthesize, and use scientific literature from various sources of information (in this order, as appropriate: tertiary, secondary, and primary), facilities, literature retrieval systems, and electronic data processing systems

    Efficiently apply principles of evidence-based medicine

    Effectively communicate using written and verbal communication skills, tailored to meet the needs of each requestor

    Educate clients and contributes to the development and delivery of service education programs

    Apply knowledge regarding clinical drug use and therapeutics

    Apply knowledge of pharmaceutical care

    Apply knowledge of the legal and ethical responsibilities associated with supplying drug information

    Identify and analyze issues or trends regarding medication use (such as adverse events and medication incidents) and assists in determining the related root causes

    Effectively manage projects

    Have excellent interpersonal and communicative skills.

    Be able to deal with staff and management at all levels within the organization.

    Develop/ initiate therapeutic plans and address medication related problems.

    Team player: Demonstrates a willingness to work well with others.

    Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to achieve optimal outcome across the continuum of care.

    REQUIRED ATTITUDE TO PERFORM THE JOB:

    Positive attitude and ability to work under pressure with time constraints.

    Has a positive and specific idea about the contribution planned to be implemented in the department.

    Respect patient's right to privacy, which affirms that person's worth and dignity, show respect for that person, and build trust with them.
