Achieving Production Excellence

When you want to achieve set goals, jot down the essentials on a piece of paper. Firstly, make a right start as per the schedule. Secondly, move as per the set goals and track your performance. Thirdly, motivate your workforce and keep them engaged. Fourthly, find out loopholes and lessen them. Fifthly, take an account of everything, assess your department activities and appreciate your staff for their efforts.


Simply to say, your production floor is the heart of your facility. If that functions well, everything remains well in continuity. 


In other words, when the whole world of manufacturing is adopting technological advancements and adapting tactical ways to actualize efficiency in productivity, then neither you can lag behind nor remain unaware of effective tools and techniques.


As a production manager, you may possess extensive expertise and are capable enough to steer production facility and operations. 


But then, if you mismanage production goals, lack enhanced communication with your staff, remain unaware of workers’ performance, have no regular production machinery maintenance, have no options for upgrading production equipment and software, face frequent downtime with no proper details and have disengaged production employees, then, definitely, you’ll face hindrances in production schedules and achieving planned production.


Obviously, when quality unit personnel, on a daily basis, carry out production floor inspection and investigations, then the outcome will be improved production operations. What matters most is that when you have available resources, you should utilize them in a right manner.


If nothing is as usual, and if deviations or issues are found, then there should be relevant check, thorough to-do list, scheduled follow up and prompt feedback. It depends how the inspection team coordinates with floor personnel, reviews documents, tracks defects, handles human errors and get rid of breakdowns or bottlenecks. 


In simpler way, we can say 'find failures, focus on what’s to be done and fix them'.


In fact, an effective rapport between production and quality unit is most crucial. And through periodic meetings, respective personnel can address important issues, pending tasks, existent deficiencies, concerned responsibilities and corrective actions required. When problems aren’t solved by common sense, then you have to be rational in applying appropriate techniques, tactics and tools.


Well, if you have a viable production plan that outlines needed justifications, estimated production cost, available production capacities and expected profitability, then that’s good. 


However, efficient productivity can be witnessed when a company invests in its quality culture, workforce capabilities and smooth functioning of manufacturing processes. And the best strategy is to have controlled culture, talented and trained manpower and consistent and effective teamwork.


Sometimes, communicating clearly with the employees in traditional ways work well. When you make them happy, with simple courtesies besides respective luncheon meetings, bonuses or incentives, then you will find them at your command. In fact, they become more loyal, more dedicated and work well with a sense of ownership. 


That way, a company progresses to enhanced efficiency, productivity, opportunities and prosperity.
